Retirement Community Line Dancing
July 17, 2018
A new and exciting addition has come to the I.N.S.P.I.R.E program here at Brightmore of South Charlotte retirement community. We have added a Line Dancing class to our Wellness Calendar. This class will be for all ability levels and will start on Thursdays at 1:00 in our Aerobics Room.
Couple the physical health benefits Line Dancing with the, mental and physical coordination, and social interaction, this becomes a great multidimensional senior fitness class. Line dancing provides our residents with a low impact cardiovascular workout. Along with the physical fitness, there is a high degree of mental fitness at work too. The coordination to watch the instructors, perform the same steps and having the spatial awareness to avoid other participants creates quite the mental challenge. There are several studies that have concluded that line dancing may slow the progression of dementia in the elderly population. After attending a class, it’s easy to see how that could be concluded. The progression from step one and two at the start of class, to combining as many as 30-40 steps together by the end of class can really challenges one’s mental recall.
This new addition to the I.N.S.P.I.R.E. program here at Brightmore of South Charlotte is already beginning to help our resident’s increase their cardiovascular function while also challenging their mental recall. Making this class a great all around wellness class while providing another avenue for social interaction for our seniors.
