Brightmore Takes a Trip to Kentucky
This spring, several of our Brightmore residents packed their bags and were off to the races! We joined up with a group of our friends from Sun City Carolina Lakes and spent 5 days in the Bluegrass state. We began our trip in historic Berea, Kentucky, at the Boone Tavern Inn with a lovely dinner and relaxing evening. The next day began with a tour of the largest Toyota Plant in the world, which manufactures 550,000 vehicles per year. After touring the plant we headed to the Buffalo Trace Distillery where we learned the process of making bourbon from start to finish – which of course ended with a tasting of Kentucky’s signature beverage! We ended the day with a production of “Oklahoma!” at the Derby Theatre in Clarksville, Indiana. A day full of history was to follow as we explored Museum Row in downtown Louisville. We learned the process of making Louisville Slugger’s famous baseball bats, as well as soaked up the history at the Frazier Museum and Muhammad Ali Center. Next we saw Louisville from the water on a fantastic river boat cruise with lots of delicious food and sightseeing. We wrapped up our trip at Churchill Downs, the highlight of our week! Brightmore residents spent the day learning about the history of the Kentucky Derby in the Kentucky Derby Museum, learned the ins and outs of handicapping horses, and even designed their own hats to wear that evening to the Twilight Races. We returned to Brightmore with plenty of fond memories!
